Lake Harding is located on the Chattahoochee River (a.k.a. "The Hooch") just north of Columbus, Georgia.  Lake Harding spans 5,850 acres and spreads along a 13-mile section of the portion of the Chattahoochee River that separates Georgia and Alabama.  The lake is impounded by Bartletts Ferry Dam built in 1926.  Lake Harding has 156 miles of shoreline in Lee and Chambers County in Alabama and Harris County in Georgia.  Water sports such as boating, swimming, skiing, fishing and sailing are enjoyed on Lake Harding.  There are several Restaurants, Camping Facilities, Boat Landings and Marinas located on the Georgia and Alabama side of Lake Harding.  There are many Lake Homes on both the Georgia and Alabama side of Lake Harding for year round living or weekend getaways.  Callaway Gardens is just a short drive from Hamilton on the Georgia side of the Chattahoochee River. 
 
 

What's in our name?...and a little history

Rev. Walter Bartley

In the mid to late 1800's Rev. Simpson Wilson Bartley (1827-1884), Baptist minister, doctor and pioneer of Harris County Georgia, operated a ferry across the Chattahoochee River.  He lived and owned the land near the present site of Bartlett's Ferry (Lake Harding ) dam; his farm was near the Chattahoochee River.  His son Walter also became a Baptist minister and operated the ferry. 

   In 1924 construction of the dam started and by March 1926 Bartlett's Ferry was generating electricity.  Through the misspelling of the name over the years the name of the dam became Bartlett's Ferry.  Most locals refer to the backwaters created by Bartlett's Ferry dam as Lake Harding though outside of the Chattahoochee Valley area the Lake is better known by fishermen and tourist as Bartlett's (Bartletts) Ferry Lake.
